Close-up views of Machhapuchhre on a quiet ridge trail
A short, uncrowded teahouse trek from Pokhara through rhododendron forest to the Mardi Himal viewpoint, right below the fishtail peak of Machhapuchhre.
The Mardi Himal trek is one of the Annapurna region's quieter routes. It climbs a narrow ridge east of the busy Annapurna Base Camp trail. In just a few days you go from Pokhara's lakeside to High Camp (3,580 m) and the Upper Viewpoint (4,200 m / 13,780 ft). From there, Machhapuchhre, Mardi Himal, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli fill the sky.
Nights are spent in simple, cosy teahouses. The trail passes dense rhododendron forest (in bloom in March–April) and opens onto alpine ridges above Low Camp. It suits trekkers with some experience, or fit first-timers who are ready for one long summit day.
